Tubing in North Biscayne Bay
Warm water, wide-open bay runs, and a built-in “reset stop” at Haulover Sandbar make North Biscayne Bay a go-to spot for tubing. Launch nearby, tow in open water, then cool off in shallow, clear flats.
North Biscayne Bay (Miami / North Miami Beach / Bal Harbour) is one of South Florida’s most convenient places to spend a full day tubing. Multiple ramps and marinas give you quick access to open stretches of bay where you can run clean towing lines—then drop the hook at a sandbar when it’s time to swim, snack, and regroup.
For most tubing-focused itineraries, Haulover Sandbar is the natural hub. It’s widely known for its shallow, clear water and social raft-up vibe, making it a perfect pre-ride meetup or post-ride cooldown before heading back to the ramp.
Because the area mixes towing-friendly open water with busy channels, bridges, and posted speed zones, planning your routes (and your tide window) is the key to a safer, smoother day on the water.
About This Experience
Tubing in North Biscayne Bay typically follows a simple, effective rhythm: launch at Haulover Park, transit through idle/no-wake areas, run tubing sets in open bay water away from channels and raft-ups, then anchor at Haulover Sandbar to swim and relax. The sandbar’s location inside Haulover Inlet on the bay side makes it a convenient staging point—without needing to head offshore.
Local conditions matter. The sandbar depth and shape shift subtly with tide and sand movement, so plan around rising-to-high tide for easier approach and departure. Also expect active enforcement of posted idle/slow-speed zones in parts of Miami-Dade waters—build that into your timing, and keep towing well clear of marked channels and congested areas.
Easy tubing itineraries (by boat)
Classic Haulover Tubing + Sandbar Reset (Half-Day)
Launch from Haulover Park/Bill Bird Marina area, idle out through posted zones, and set up your towing runs in open bay water away from channels and raft-ups. After a few sets, anchor at Haulover Sandbar to swim and relax, then return before afternoon traffic builds.
North Bay Tow Runs + ICW Cruise (Full-Day)
Start with morning tubing while water is typically calmer, then transition into a scenic Intracoastal Waterway cruise for sightseeing and a slower-paced midday break. Finish with a final tubing set (conditions permitting) and end at Haulover Sandbar for a swim before heading back.
Bay-Only Day (Skip the Inlet)
If conditions at Haulover Inlet are rough, keep the whole day inside the bay. Focus on clean towing lines in open water, observe all posted zones near bridges and corridors, and use Haulover Sandbar as your main anchoring stop.

Tubing tips for North Biscayne Bay
Pick towing water away from marked channels, bridge approaches, and heavy raft-ups—give yourself extra room for wide turns and rider recovery.
Use a dedicated spotter (in addition to the driver), and use a tow rope rated for tubing; consider a tow bridle if your setup calls for it.
Plan your sandbar stop around rising-to-high tide so you’re not forced to idle out through very shallow water or risk getting stuck.
Expect posted idle speed/no-wake and slow speed/minimum wake zones in parts of Miami-Dade waters—follow signage and local regulations.
Treat Haulover Inlet with respect: conditions can stack wind/current/tide and turn challenging quickly. For tubing, you generally don’t need to go offshore—stay bay-side unless conditions are favorable and you’re experienced.
Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and a plan for rider rotation so the driver and spotter stay fresh and focused.
Best time to go tubing here
Late morning through early afternoon is popular, but many crews prefer earlier starts for smoother water and easier parking/launching. For Haulover Sandbar, aim for rising-to-high tide for the easiest anchoring and departure. Weekends and holidays can get busy—plan extra time for ramp lines and no-wake transits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Haulover Sandbar is the most common hub. It’s known for shallow, clear water and a social raft-up vibe, making it a convenient place to swim and reset before or after towing runs.
A commonly published navigate-to point is 25.9075, -80.1235. The sandbar shifts slightly with tide and sand movement, so use good seamanship and confirm depth as you approach.
Haulover Park is a primary launch/staging option: 10800 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33154. Park office phone: 305-947-3525. General park hours: sunrise to sunset; boat ramp hours: 6:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
For tubing, you typically don’t need to exit the inlet. Haulover Inlet can become hazardous when wind, tide, and current interact, so many crews stay bay-side and use the inlet area mainly as a reference point—not a requirement.
Yes. Parts of Miami-Dade waters have idle speed/no-wake and slow speed/minimum wake zones that are actively enforced. Follow posted signage and keep towing out of channels and congested corridors.
Rising to high tide is typically best. It gives you more water over the sandbar for easier approach, anchoring, and departure—especially if you’re carrying a full crew and gear.
