Sunset cruises in Fort Lauderdale
See the “Venice of America” at golden hour—gliding the Intracoastal and New River past waterfront mansions, marinas, and glittering downtown views.
Fort Lauderdale sunset cruises are all about protected-water cruising, skyline photo moments, and the city’s famous canal and Intracoastal Waterway scenery. As the light softens, you’ll pass luxury homes, mega-yachts, and lively waterfront restaurants—often with music or narration onboard.
Many sunset routes favor the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and New River because they’re typically calmer than the open ocean, making the ride smoother for groups and first-timers. Depending on the operator and conditions, you may also glimpse Port Everglades traffic around dusk—cruise ships and commercial vessels are part of the show.
Because departure docks vary across the city, this page spotlights a clear, bookable starting point: Water Taxi’s Sunset Music Cruise departing from Shooters Waterfront (Stop #9).
About This Experience
A Fort Lauderdale sunset cruise is a scenic ride timed for golden hour, typically along the New River and Intracoastal Waterway. Expect waterfront mansion views, superyachts near marinas, and a front-row seat to the city’s skyline as the lights come on. Many cruises offer music and a bar onboard (service varies by operator and event).
Featured departure point: Water Taxi’s Sunset Music Cruise boards at Shooters Waterfront (Water Taxi Stop #9), 3033 NE 32nd Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Water Taxi’s general operating hours are 10:00 AM–10:00 PM daily, and the Sunset Music Cruise runs on scheduled dates/seasonal events—check the operator’s current calendar before you go. Parking guidance from the operator: valet at Shooters or pay-to-park across the street (Pay-by-Phone or pay station).

Planning tips for a smooth sunset cruise
Book ahead for weekends and peak season—sunset is the highest-demand departure window.
Arrive early for parking and boarding; sunset cruises often depart on a strict schedule.
Bring a light jacket or wrap—breezes pick up quickly after the sun goes down.
If you’re sensitive to motion, choose larger vessels and ICW-heavy routes (usually calmer than offshore).
South Florida weather can change fast at dusk; check rain/cancellation policies and pack light rain protection.
Wear non-slip shoes for docks and boarding; avoid high heels on gangways.
Best time to go
Aim to arrive 30–45 minutes before departure to park, check in, and settle in before golden hour. The best light typically starts 45–60 minutes before sunset and continues into twilight, when Fort Lauderdale’s waterfront homes and skyline begin to sparkle.
