Sunset cruise in Biscayne Bay
Sail out from Downtown Miami as the skyline lights up and Biscayne Bay turns gold. It’s the easiest way to see Star Island, the Venetian Islands, and Government Cut at dusk.
A sunset cruise in Biscayne Bay is a classic Miami on-the-water experience—typically departing from the waterfront docks at Bayside Marketplace in Downtown Miami. Most cruises follow a scenic loop designed for golden hour: skyline views, calm bay water, and a front-row seat to the city’s best waterfront neighborhoods.
From the bay, you’ll cruise past the Port of Miami and the barrier islands (like the Venetian Islands and the Star Island area), with photo-perfect angles of Brickell and Downtown as the sun drops. It’s a relaxed, sightseeing-first outing that works well for couples, families, and anyone who wants maximum views with minimal planning.
For check-in, many operators direct guests to the waterside area at Bayside behind Victoria’s Secret, near the Bayside waterfront docks and Miamarina at Bayside.
About This Experience
Most Biscayne Bay sunset cruises depart from Bayside Marketplace (401 Biscayne Blvd) at the City of Miami’s Miamarina at Bayside—positioned on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway at the west end of Government Cut. That location makes it ideal for short, scenic routes that still feel like “big water,” with quick access to the Port of Miami, Fisher Island, and the iconic island neighborhoods. Expect a narrated or self-guided sightseeing vibe depending on the operator, with open-air viewing plus covered/indoor seating options on many vessels. Routes commonly highlight the Downtown skyline reflections, the Venetian Islands, Star Island celebrity-home waterways, and South Beach shoreline viewpoints as the lights come on across the bay.

Port of Miami + Government Cut Sunset Run
Head toward Dodge Island and the Port of Miami, then ride the dramatic channel of Government Cut near Fisher Island—great for catching the last light with a more open-water feel.

Planning tips for a smooth departure from Bayside
Arrive 45 minutes early for check-in/voucher exchange and better seating—many cruises are first-come, first-served.
Look for check-in on the waterfront side of Bayside Marketplace (often referenced as behind Victoria’s Secret) near the docks.
Bring your confirmation email on your phone; printed tickets may not be required (operator-specific).
Evening weather changes fast—consider a cruise with a covered/indoor deck if rain is possible. Many trips run rain or shine.
Outside food and drinks are often restricted; plan for onboard snacks/beverages if offered (operator-specific).
If driving, Bayside Marketplace parking is open 24/7; note the 6'6" garage height limit.
Best time to go
Aim for a departure that begins 30–60 minutes before local sunset so you get full golden-hour color and can watch the skyline lights come on. Arrive early to check in and grab a prime rail-side viewing spot.
